Grave Matters: Finding Death and Cemetery Information

March 22, 2014

Tina Simmons and Elinor “Ellie” Thompson provided strategies for locating family history information in cemetery records.  Death certificates often provide valuable genealogical clues about our ancestors, but sometimes it is difficult to find them. The presenters discussed  numerous other records that may substitute for missing records.  They also discussed  modern technology tools that may be used to document and digitize cemetery information.

Ellie and Tina set up displays and brought copies of documents such as morticians’ logs, photos and memoirs of clergy, church history books, funeral programs, and other documents that provide clues about the deceased.
