“What Did the DNA Say Over a Decade Later,” a Zoom presentation by author, blogger, and genealogist Melvin Collier, for National DNA Day, sponsored by the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, National Chapter, April 25, 2023, 8:00 pm EST

In 2011, Melvin Collier published “150 Years Later: Broken Ties Mended,” which captures the story of his great-grandfather, William “Bill” Reed, and how extensive genealogy research and oral history uncovered a lot about his South Carolina roots. Reed migrated to northern Mississippi shortly after Emancipation. Shortly after the book, DNA testing hit the scene and was truly an eye-opener. Collier will present how DNA and continued genealogy research confirmed, clarified, and even uncovered some great surprises to add to his great-grandfather’s story. The audience will learn some effective tips on utilizing DNA testing with their genealogy research.
